Spirit Talker/Wounded Soldier

After several years had passed with her adventures into Haiti.  Celeste, older in age, became bored with her daily routine.  Her last daughter finally moved out of her home to start her own life, while her husbands drinking problem didn’t change.  He controlled it for a while, but picked the habit back up.  Celeste became withdrawn inside herself, knowing that he would never change. She thought if she let him be who he needed to be, and stop her nagging, he would change, and learn that he didn’t need alcohol as a muse.  Sadly, it didn’t work out that way.  It affected their relationship in sex again, but Celeste was still in her thinking mode with Valis.  She didn’t need the closeness with her husband like she use too.  Valis filled the lost feeling that she lacked in love-making.   All she had to do is remember the time she had with the captain of the SWAT Team, and it ebbed away the lonely feelings.  She did not take advantage of the communication porthole between the soul-mates.  There were times, she so wanted to hear his voice again, but refrained and stayed true to her man. Her way of thinking was “Let lying dogs lay,” so she never instigated the situation further. That didn’t mean that Valis didn’t tried, but she would never reply.

In the late month of August, in New Mexico, the need to hunt weighed heavily upon her soul. Her dreams of a hunt, became her waking thought every day. Today was the day she would begin her journey into the forest, backpacking with her painted horse, “Tru Quadrant,” alone.  Her hopes were to stay about two weeks in the forest, hunting elk or wild sheep.  Her husband wanted to go with her, but she refused him, saying she needed time to herself.

Dressed up in her childhood tan deerskin outfit, she had made when she was a teenager.  She was amazed it still fit her aged body, after all those years ago, but more snugger.  The last time she remembered wearing it was when she began her life in Los Angeles.  She felt the soft skin with awe, as she looked at herself in the full length mirror.  “Such a long time ago, wonder what my husband will say when he see’s it?” Celeste softly spoke to herself.  Celeste was very private about her childhood life.  Never telling anyone what she had endured, she hid her life away in a travel trunk, under lock and key.  She quickly braided her long curly hair into a braid, topping it off with an Indian headband.   Then slipped into her moccasins, finishing it off by placing her knife into the sleeve of the soft boots. Like routine, she put her cowgirl hat on, and walked out of her bedroom into the kitchen, for some morning java.

When she entered the kitchen, her husband gawked at her outfit.  Being caught off guard, he quickly recovered from her intense gaze.  “Where in the hell, did you get that outfit, Celeste?” He said with astonishment.  “I’ve had it since I was a teenager, I thought to pull it out for my backpacking trip, you like?” Celeste dared him to say anything else, but he did not.  He closed the gap between them, both standing face to face. When he gently touched her cheek with amusement, he spoke to her in a turned on fashion.  “Come Pocahontas, let me do you before you leave?”

“You had your time darlin’ to do me, if I don’t leave now, I won’t find a camping site in daylight.  Sorry to burst your bubble dude, but I am on a time schedule. Let’s pick this up when I get back, okay?”  Her husband gently kissed her, she reciprocated. When they broke apart he offered her a cup of coffee.  She gladly accepted, “Do you need anything else, my love?” Her husband offered.  “No thank you, everything is packed, I don’t want to carry too much.  If I need food, I will have Wolf help me.”

“I wish Celeste, you would take your cell phone,” he offered with care.   “How many times do I need to say, where I am going, there is no service for cells.  So if I get into a pickle, wolf will be there.” Celeste needed to leave, wanting to be in the open skies to see the sunrise. She kissed her husband, and downed the last drops of her coffee, before she headed out on her adventure.

The minute she walked out of her casita, her horses snickered a greeting.  She feed them all, and pulled out her trusty black and white-painted stallion.  She geared him up for the long haul, while he ate his breakfast. When finished she grabbed her bow and arrows, placing them with care behind her back, she hoisted herself up upon the great tall stallion, and took off like the wind.

Celeste loved to ride in the arroyo’s.  The sandy grooves from the great water run off’s, told a story of many raging waters that had passed by with great force.  Forming a huge channel heading to the Rio Grande River.  The gorge’s housed many pack of wild dogs or coyotes. Making it a very dangerous area in the dusk and dawn hours.  She took short cuts through many pueblos, throughout the gullies, staying hidden from the public.  Respecting the sac-rite sites of the American Indians land, she proceed in stealth down the arroyo’s heading towards the red mountains.

Quadrant and her raced to the mountain top before time ran out.  She wanted to be on top of this one mountain, to catch the morning rays of dawn, peeking over the Sangre de Cristos.  Before she entered the deep forest, heading into the forgotten valleys of the Colorado Sangre de Cristo’s.

Just in time, and out of breath, Quad was grateful to Celeste when she stopped, unbridled him, and let him roam eating the last of the buffalo grass. With her slender steel coffee thermos, she poured her a hot cup of coffee, and nestled in to watch the beautiful sunrise upon the ground.  She very rarely missed a sunrise, it was her only time to mediate for the new day.  It didn’t take no time at all, for the sun to peek over the mountains. Celeste took off her hat, and let the morning rays fill her soul, with vitamin D.

Words did not come to Celeste’s lips, she was bathed in the rays beauty and warmth. When Quad snorted an alert, Celeste followed the horses movement to where the sound could be coming.  Her trained eyes caught the beauty of Wolf in full stride, running to catch up with Celeste.  She smiled, knowing Wolf knew her ware about’s at all time.  She turned her head back to view the watermelon morning skies of New Mexico.

History of why the Sangre de Cristo’s are called their name:

The Sangre de Cristo Mountains (Spanish for “Blood of Christ“) are the southernmost subrange of the Rocky Mountains. They are located in southern Colorado and northern New Mexico in the United States. The mountains run from Poncha Pass in South-Central Colorado, trending southeast and south, ending at Glorieta Pass, southeast of Santa Fe, New Mexico. The mountains contain a number of fourteen thousand foot peaks in the Colorado portion, as well as all the peaks in New Mexico which are over thirteen thousand feet.

The name, Spanish for “blood of Christ“, is said to come from the red color of the range at some sunrises and sunsets, especially when the mountains are covered with snow, alpenglow. However the particular origin of the name is unclear, and the name in fact only dates back to the early 19th century. Before that time the terms “La Sierra Nevada”, “La Sierra Madre”, “La Sierra”, and “The Snowies” (used by English speakers) were used.  Sometimes the archaic Spanish spelling “Christo” is used.

“Please sit down child of the earth and light. We have much to talk about.” Lilly smiled at Celeste. Celeste obeyed and picked up her cup of tea while never taking her eyes off of the witch.

As the old man walked down his step to get to the beach with arms laden with towels, the group was about to leave when the old man approached them.  Wolf stayed close to her while Jack was still laughing. “I know this is odd, but my wife would like to have tea with you guys.  We have a mud room where you silly willy’s can get cleaned up if you care to join us?”  Celeste raised an dirty eyebrow at the man.  She could feel his need to have them join the older couple for tea. She quickly looked at the house where the man came from and saw the elder lady wrapped in a blanket waving at her.  She felt something odd with the figure but she was not threatening.

Jack immediately said no, but Celeste looked at her muddy group and decided they would be delighted to have a cup of warm tea.  Besides the rain had finally stopped and they couldn’t go back to the beautiful home they rented in a muddy mess.  So all three followed the old man up the stairs.

Celeste took Wolf inside the shower with her and cleaned both of themselves until they were presentable.  When she and wolf got out of the shower a clean robe was waiting for her.  She quickly rubbed the wolf down until he was almost dry.  Jack followed suit and in no time at all they were ready to meet the elder woman.   “Leave those dirty clothes there, I will rinse them out and throw them into the washer.” The man said to Celeste and Jack. Jack didn’t say a word he just followed suit.

“Wolf you stay here in this room, Jack and I will return.” Celeste kissed the wolf’s head and followed the man to meet his wife.  She took note that the home was rich and decorated in French decor.  She could smell the scent of lavender and chamomile when she walked into the beautiful sun room.  The minute Celeste’s eyes met the woman she felt a spiritual aura that was unexplained.

“Hello you silly people, thank you for joining us.  Please take a seat and have some tea.”  The lady offered in greeting.  Jack still didn’t say a word as the both of them found a seat to enjoy a cup of tea. Jack was staring out of the windows looking at the bay, while Celeste didn’t blink she and the woman were staring at each other.

Her husband broke the spell between his wife and Celeste when he came in to join them, and sat next to Jack.  They were quiet for a few moments when Celeste gathered her composure.  “I thank ya kindly for the invite and the hospitality.  Odd as it is, we are bless to have your company.” Celeste introduced herself and Jack to the couple, and they did the same.

“Your a half-breed?” Lilly asked Celeste.  Celeste wasn’t sure how to handle the woman.  She wreaked of spiritual power.  She looked at Jack and felt he too was experiencing the same thing she took note on.  “I am.” Celeste answered. Lilly looked at Jack and said, “So are you, and welcome home Wounded Soldier. Your secret is safe with us.” Jack and Celeste both looked at each other shocked that she would dare to say what she thought.

Her husband couldn’t believe her statement, but offered a comment to smooth the company’s minds. “My Lilly is a Tarot Reader but is retired, please forgive her it just comes naturally to her.”  Both her and Jack became uncomfortable until James soften the blow.  “I too am a surviving soldier of World War II.” Lilly watched the two with eagle eyes.  Her mind was being ripped to part with the two’s energy and their past lives.

“James how about you and Jack go into the kitchen for a few moments and bring some cookies and cheese and crackers, while I talk with this young lady.” Celeste didn’t want to be alone with her.  She got up and said, “Thank you so much for your kindness, but I think we need to leave.”  Jack stood up with Celeste and was ready to leave; however, Lilly spoke out with amusement in her eyes. “What you can’t handle the truth?  I double dog dare you to stick around, besides I have been waiting for you for many years; and not to mention your clothes are being washed right now, so you can’t leave until they are done.”

Lilly said the wrong thing to Celeste, she became defensive.  “Watch out woman, I take dares seriously! Just to let you know I will walk out of this house nude if I have too.  Clothes mean shit to me lady!”  Lilly chuckled at Celeste.  “James I have a feisty girl here who needs a reality check, so I have to trend lightly, please take Jack with you.” Jack was getting nervous and finally spoke out.  “Your a witch! Aren’t you?”

Lilly smiled at Jack and replied.  “I have been called worse Soldier, please I mean no harm.  So please appease me, and let me get this out!  Just to let you know I am not a witch but I am a Psychic Medium.” Celeste was confused yet wanted to hear what she had to say. She nodded to Jack then spoke quietly inside Jack’s mind. “Don’t think I can’t hear you two!” They both stopped their silent communication and stared at the determined Lilly.

James lightly stated while trying to clear the angry energy, “Come Jack let’s leave these ladies talk while we prep some munchies.”  Jack looked at Celeste with worry, she nodded as Jack followed James out of the sun room.

“Please sit down child of the earth and light.  We have much to talk about.” Lilly smiled at Celeste, Celeste obeyed and picked up her cup of tea while never taking her eyes off of the witch.

“Who you are makes no different in life, it’s what you do that makes you a special person!”

Celeste had to open the large windows and take out the screens to push the bubbles outside. All evening and into the early morning she worked on wiping down the walls and floors.  When she finished she went into the kitchen and made a pot of coffee.  Quietly, she went into Jack’s room to see how he was doing.  He was sound to sleep and in a serious snoring mood.  She smiled softly and closed his door, then headed back to the kitchen for her cup of Joe.

She sat by the fire and put another log into the blaze.  As she looked around the cozy home her eyes stopped on her cedar chest. It had been ages since she last looked inside the contents of the large chest.  All her childhood memories were locked up inside the chest.  It was also the same chest she had found money in when her grandfather passed away a very long time ago.

Slowly she got up carrying her cup of coffee over to the beautiful crafted box.  Her hand slid over the gorgeous wood carving of two doves flying in the air with ribbons.  She opened the heavy lid and looked at her meager belongings.  “Someone was in this box, I am sure it was my husband. Why would he snoop into something that does not belong to him?”   She saw the picture of her grandfather and grandmother on her mother’s side.  Touching Henry’s face with her finger she whispered, “I miss you papa!  My life is getting too crazy and I don’t understand what is happening to me.  Wish you were here to help me out.  I think I have made a mess out of my life papa.  I abandon my marriage, I left my children behind, I am taking a wounded soldier home, and now I can’t sleep and have energy like there is no tomorrow.  My hair is white and black and I have this power inside me that I really don’t understand.”

Celeste covered her face with her hands, then spoke out lightly.  “Who am I?  Please someone tell me who I am?” For a few minutes she sat by the chest pondering on her life with tears in her eyes. She heard Wolf scratch on the back door.  She got up and went to let him inside the house. “Holy crud, it’s snowing!”  Wolf shook his wet body and quickly went to lay down by the toasty fire.

Celeste watched the massive down pour of snow drop to the ground.  “Oh shit, we have to leave, or we might be stuck here for another night.  We can’t stay here.  If that cops comes around again, I know without a shadow of doubt I am doomed.  Snap, there must be about a foot of snow already.” She closed the door and went back in the living room.  Wolf looked up at Celeste and wagged his tail.  Celeste sat on the floor with Wolf looking into the fire.  “Help me?  What should I do?”

An hour passed by Celeste while sitting in front of the fire for an answer.

“Child of the light, have no worries, the snow has stopped.  You must leave soon because your husband searches for you and the truck. Look inside the cedar chest and you will know what to do.  You must stay hidden for a month with Jack, then you have one more journey before you come home to Mother Earth.  Do you understand Hialeah?  Also, check your passport and driving license.  We are sure this will lesson your fears.”  Celeste nodded her head yes silently.

She got up off the floor and went to the chest.  Slowly she took out some of her belongings, when she saw a letter at the bottom of the chest, she smiled with glee.  She had forgotten the money she had stashed away in California before she met her husband.  She opened the letter and life couldn’t be any better for Celeste.  She had stored over $50,000.00 dollars in stocks and bonds for over 30 years. “I had forgotten about this money.  Why didn’t I think about it after all these years?” Celeste began to cry softly.  She quickly got into her suitcase and found her ID and passport.  When she saw the picture on the ID and passport she was static with happiness. “How is that possible? You are amazing Mother spirit for helping me!” Celeste giggled.  “Thank you heavens for protecting me.  I am so bless and do not deserve this!  I swear I am so stupid at times!” A soft voice spoke out.

“You are not stupid Hialeah, you are deserving for all the unconditional love you have given to people, earth and family.  You do not abuse the process of life child.  You are humble with a beautiful giving soul.  You are different than most people, never forget that!  Who you are makes no different in life, it’s what you do that makes you a special person!”

Before she was going to place all her belongings back into the cedar chest, she kissed the picture of her grandparents and quickly put all the stuff back into the box with her arrows Jack made her.  She picked up the letter planning to make a telephone call to the bank when they opened. Celeste had a new spring in her step, she was a happy camper as she went into the lovely kitchen and began to make them a huge breakfast.

“Kiss, Kiss my old wise one, may you always be bless by the grace of God!”

Celeste was on her second glass of wine sitting next to the fireplace when the new and improved Jack stepped into the living room.  “Well I be dude, you clean up real good!” Celeste smiled at Jack in a devilish way.  “Nujalik, these are good cloths.  I like these pants, they are warm and good for winter.” Jack picked his butt, pulling the colored underwear from riding up his ass.  Celeste chuckled and said, “So how do you like your underwear?  I know its been a long time since you wore a pair.”  Jack smiled then offered, “They are colored girl.  I have never seen whitey tighty’s like this.” Celeste roared with laughter.  “Well Jack I had to get you some sexy draws, never know you might meet an Eskimo lady when you return home.” Jack blushed.

“Here Jack have a seat, I have a few things for you.  Would you like a glass of wine?” Jack agreed and sat down on the soft sofa.  She returned quickly and handed him the glass.  He took a sip and smiled.  “Good wine, been forever since I had a drink of this stuff.” She watched him slowly take another sip, relishing in the after taste of the drink.

Celeste sat across from Jack by the fireplace and smiled with love.  She started to become emotional as she tried to find the right words.  “Since you are returning home my friend, a guy has to look his best even through all kinds of weather.  There is so much I want to say Jack, but I can’t.  All I know is I adore you and your crazy ways. You have given me the best wildest hunting journey I have ever been on, and let me say that was my last hunting expedition.  Now we are almost home, and I know our time together is almost up.” Celeste wiped away a tear from her cheek.  “Awe…Nujalik, don’t cry.  I too have many things to say, but don’t know how to say them.  I am thankful God brought you to me.”  Celeste took sip of her wine and opened the first bag.

Jack’s eye opened wide and gawked at the gorgeous mink fur coat.  “You will need warm clothing Jack.  I want your old clothes so I can burn them.  You have lived all your life with just the bare essentials.  So today I thought to spoil you and set you up for your new life!  I hope you like it? Here stand up and let’s try it on.” Jack looked at Celeste dumbfounded.  No words could come to his lips.  She gently put his arms into the sleeves of the plush jacket.  The coat fit Jack perfectly.  A tear rolled down his face.  He quickly wiped it away.  “Nujalik why are you doing this for me? This must have cost you a fortune.  I can not accept this beautiful gift.”

Celeste had so many emotions bombing her all at once all she could do is go with the flow. Jack turned around and looked at Celeste.  “I simply love you my grandfather.  Never forget that, okay!”  Jack didn’t know what to say.  They both stood staring at each other unsure what to do. Celeste quickly grabbed the other bags and pulled out the working boots.  Jack loved them on the spot.  “These will be good in the coldest winter, they will keep you feet warm.  Here try them on to make sure they fit.” She handed him the boots and he happily put them on.  Smiling from ear to ear, Jack was in heaven.  “They are the perfect fit Nujalik.  WOW…I have not had a new pair of boots like this in a long time.  They feel good girl.”  Jack walked around the large living room with his new boots on.  “Well I also bought these and wasn’t sure if they would be better use in the harsh climate.”  She pulled out the otter furry boots.

Jack’s jaw about dropped to the floor. Celeste made Jack take off his boots and tried the furry critters on.  Absolutely glee was written on Jack’s face.  “Wonderful, so soft and perfect for the cold.  Nujalik you shouldn’t have!” She smiled and took another drink of her wine.  “I think your ready to return home now, don’t you?” She lightly spoke out.

“Home?  How am I going to handle this Nujalik!  Where am I going to begin?” Celeste answered Jack,  “Well my man you better think about what you plan to do.  I have a bathroom I must clean up.”  She smiled and got up from the chair and let Jack to his thoughts alone.  She had to get that bathroom cleaned up and fast, because they will be leaving in the morning to get the heck out of Reno.

As she got up to go clean the bathroom, Jack softly said.  “Stay there for a minute girl, I too have something for you.”  Celeste’s eyes raised and said, “Really? Jack there is nothing I need or want but seeing you happy.  So I think you can’t top what I did here, so just tell me you love me and then we will call it even Steven!”  Jack gave her a scowl and barked out.  “Woman you don’t do well in receiving.  You give and give, but never ask for nothing in return.  You are a good yet odd woman Nujalik.  I have never met a woman like you who is Guardian of the Forest, Huntress of wild life, child of the light, and spirit woman to Henry the Great!”  Celeste’s eyes were tearing up with all the praise Jack bestowed upon her.  She watched him turn around on his furry heels and head to his bedroom.

He came back out carrying his backpack.  The large black bear fur was new to Celeste.  She smiled knowing it was from the bear him and her killed.   He sat down gently on the couch and dug into his pack.  “Nujalik, I know it broke your heart seeing the most precious thing you lost on a day that neither one of us suspected to happen.  I know they can’t be replace, but its a good start!” Celeste became confused until she opened her mouth wide in shock.

Jack pulled out the best looking arrows she has ever seen.  Twelve arrows perfectly crafted from the bone of the bear. The points were broadheads of sharp pointed steel, giving the arrows a mechanical type stream line entry upon impact of a kill.   The end of the arrows were adored with Golden Eagle feathers.  Celeste didn’t know what to say.  She looked at Jack with grace an undying love.  He quietly handed her the gift.

Light weight and straight, she scanned the quality arrows from inch to inch.  “Jack, I…I don’t…” Jack cut her off and stood beside her.  “You are worth it Nujalik for all that you have given me.  It was the least I can do to thank you.”  Celeste hugged the arrows to her breast and freely cried. She stood up after a few moments and hugged the heck out the old man.

Unable to say a word, Celeste released Jack from her bear hug and took a few steps away from him.   Jack watched the spitfire stop and blow him a kiss.  “Kiss, Kiss my old wise one, may you always be bless by the grace of God!” She slowly turned around to begin the task of cleaning up the bubbly bathroom, leaving Jack speechless and emotional.

“I’m cuckoo for CoCo Puffs! Don’t eat the damn shit, or you might end up like me!”

Celeste got out behind the wheel of her truck and went over to Jack by the passenger door.  “Jack I will go easy on you.  I am sorry for not realizing it’s been ages since you been back in the real world.  Please we have to get out here so don’t be a puss!  If I have to old man, I will pick you up and throw you in the truck myself, so let’s move it!”  He gave Celeste a dirty look when she told him she was going to put him in the truck.  Slowly he put his foot onto the step up bar.  Celeste couldn’t wait she pushed him into the front seat of the truck.

“Damn you woman! Your too pushy, what is the hurry?”  She didn’t give him an answer.  Quickly she slammed the door on him and ran around the truck to get into the driver’s seat.  Wolf was in the back seat laying down.  “Jack, let me get us out of these mountains then I will tell you what has happened.  Put that seat belt on please!” He grabbed the strap but became confused how to work it.  With love and care she gently helped him.  Then put the truck into gear and began their decent down the mountain.

Celeste tried not to laugh at Jack, she could feel his fear when she straddled the dangerous rock formations. He finally closed his eyes after yelling at her several times to be careful. She was thankful too, because she needed her wits about her while attacking the dangerous terrain.

After a few hours of some off road work they made it back to the main highway.  Celeste took the truck out of 4-wheel drive and began their journey to Alaska.  Jack’s eyes were wide with new found experience.  Celeste smiled and new it must be a shock for him to be out of the woods and traveling onto a paved road.

She stayed quiet for about an hour when Jack finally spoke out.  “Nujalik, there is something different about you.  What happen to your hair? The one side of your head is white?” For several hours the two discussed what happened after she left him in the forest, and when she returned home.  She did not however, tell him she left her husband.  Jack stayed quiet for several moments after learning about her plight.  “I am sorry girl, I think I screwed your life up!”

Celeste smiled at Jack and said, “My life is always screwed up dude, have no worries my man. There is a reason why we met Jack, so there is no sorry’s allowed in this truck. What I would like to know Jack, is how you knew where I was going to pick you up?  I never told you when I was going to come back and get you?”   Celeste beeped her horn when they passed the border line into Nevada.  Jack replied, “You know I was visited by your grandfather again Nujalik.  He told me to hurry and leave everything.  He was my guide in the forest!”  Celeste let a tear fall, Jack watched her face change into a thoughtful mode. For over an hour they drove in silence.

Feeling hungry, she pulled the truck over into a rest area and got into her brown paper bag, and produced three burritos.  She left wolf out of the truck to do his business.  Jack slowly slid out of his seat.  Thankful to walk on the dirt again, he stretched his sore body while moving along the man made sidewalk.  Celeste had to stop Jack from whipping out his manhood and peeing in public.  “Jack your in public now, you can’t just whip it out and do your business anywhere.  See that little building over there, that’s where you must use the restroom.” Jack smiled weakly to Celeste and walked up to the building entering the men’s room. Celeste chuckled to herself and walked around until Jack returned then she too needed to use the John.

When she was finished and while she was washing her hands, she looked at herself in the mirror.  “Holy shit my hair!” Celeste’s hair on one side was now completely white. The other side was her natural blonde color.  “No wonder Jack asked me what the hell happened to me! I didn’t realize I turned this color on one side so quickly.   Whoa Joe!  My eyes are no longer two colors, they are green!” Celeste was stunned as she viewed her new self in the mirror.  She began to laugh uncontrollable as she looked at herself.  She quickly stopped when a lady entered the restroom giving Celeste an odd look and then stared at her hair.

Celeste didn’t like the feeling the young gal was projecting. With her sharp tongue she snapped out and acted like she was crazy in the head. “I’m cuckoo for CoCo Puffs!  Don’t eat the damn shit, or you might end up like me!”  The young lady took a step back and turned around and walked out quickly. Celeste bellowed out with laughter.  She splashed her face with clean water and looked one more time in the mirror when she heard her spirit speak to her.  “We are changing your appearance Hialeah, he looks for you.” She stopped looking at herself and got the hell out of the restroom.

She ran to the truck and was happy to see Jack and Wolf waiting.  “Get in now, we must go!” Celeste barked out at her companions.  She brought the engine to life again when she turned the key to start.  Jack watched her wondering what was going through her mind and why she was in a hurry.  He left it alone, knowing she had her reasons.

After they were on the road for a few, Celeste gave a burrito to Jack and Wolf.  She took a couple of bites relishing in the flavor of food.   It was the first time since she left home to eat.   She smiled when Jack cracked out.  “What are these?  It’s spicy with that green stuff and there is bacon in it.  I like it!  Oh my god that is HOT!” Jack spit out when he took another big bite of the burrito.  She giggled and gave him a bottle water.

“Boy Jack, you are like a kid in a candy shop.  Life is so new to you right now, so take it slow and we both can get through this with ease.” Jack didn’t say anything else he finished his food and feel asleep.  Celeste drove the night away with her new found energy.  She loved the fact that she has had no sleep to hinder her leaving.  If she kept this up they would make it to Alaska in two more days.

“Girl I swear you got a wild hare up your ass! What the hell has gotten into you?”

“I feel SO ALIVE!”  Celeste yelled out to the wilderness.  She was amazed to have this new kind of energy surge throughout her body.  No longer sore, tired or feeling old, Celeste was relishing in this experience.  As she trucked through the woods with ease her eye sight became strong an acute.  Aware of all her surroundings and sounds, she was able to pick up Wolf’s scent.

Celeste was one with the forest, nothing in her wildest imagination could give her this much joy in her life.  “I thank you Mother Earth and God for all these blessings you are bestowing upon me.  I am so honored!”  She howled out at the forest, Wolf returned her call.  “Their very close!”  Smiling with happiness she began to run like a little kid. Giggling with each step she took, her smile lit up the forest floor making her steps upon the earth surefooted for over a half an hour.

She stopped when she knew they were close.  Howling out again to Wolf, she watched Wolf fly through the forest with ease.  Wolf ran up to her, “Good boy Wolf! Where is our friend?”  “I am here Nujalik!”  Jack was out of breath and carrying a heavy load.  “Jack my man, long time no see!”  She bellowed out like a spunky little girl, while quickly running up to her friend giving him a warm heart felt hug.

“Woman what the hell has gotten into you?”  Jack took a step back and viewed his friend’s energy. “No time to tell you my buddy, give me your pack and I will carry it.  We have to get out of here and fast.”  Jack didn’t have a say in the matter.  Before he knew it Celeste stripped him of all his belongings except his backpack.  They both began their track back to the hidden truck.  “Slow the shit down girl, what the hell has gotten into you?”  Jack spit out.  “Jack I think I should wash your mouth out with soap.  You picked up a bad habit from me!  Cursing doesn’t become you old man!”  Jack chuckled and didn’t say a word he was simply happy to see her again.

It took them three hours to reach the truck.  Celeste was not tired, she quickly threw everything in the bed of the truck and unlocked the doors.  Jack watched his friend explode with glee.  “Girl I swear you got a wild hare up your ass!  What the hell has gotten into you?”  When Celeste took off her rabbit fur Elmer Fudd hat, Jack was shocked and stood staring at her.  “Dude, don’t stare it’s unbecoming of you!”  Celeste giggle and opened the door to the truck.  “Get in old man and make sure you wear your safety belt, because I am going to give you a ride of a life time!”

Jack approached the big truck, unsure what to do.  “Jack what the hell?  Get in!”  Celeste got in behind the wheel and started the engine.  It took her a few moments to feel his energy of fear. Then it came to her that Jack hasn’t been in an auto for many years.

“YAHOO…Oh Yeah Baby! Mama has a new pair of shoes!”

When Celeste pulled onto the main road out of her valley, she had to pull the truck over and balled her heart out.  Wolf howled and whined adding to both their sorrow.  What a pair these two were, crying out their breaking hearts inside the truck.  All Celeste could think of is the lost of her daughters.  She had to contact them to say farewell.  “I will be damned, if I do not let them know what I must do!  I will not do what my parents did to me.  Even if I will never see them again, I must explain myself!  Oh my lord in heaven guide me to be strong!” she bellowed out.  No answers came to her as she slowly got herself together.

She started the engine again and went to her bank to pull out all the money she had stashed away in case of an emergency.  What a smart woman she was…She had saved twenty dollars a week faithfully into a savings that no one knew about for over thirty years.

As she walked into the bank, the nearest open cashier offered her assistance.  In the end she was shocked to see the amount that she had saved over the years.  Breathing a sign of relief, she decided to give each of her daughters ten thousand dollars apiece.  When she finished her business she left the bank in better spirits knowing she had enough to live on comfortably without using a credit card for many years.  Thank goodness she was not a City Slicker.  Knowing how to survive in the wild and not needing the materials or conveniences to the modern day human, her success rate climbed high in her favor.

Wolf was happy to see Celeste return, she fired up the truck quickly and got the hell out of Dodge!  On her route to get to the closest part of the mountains to get Jack, she turned on her cell phone and began to call her daughters.

The conversations were heart retching as she spilled the beans to her babies.  Breathing a sign of relief, she was happy to hear they understood her plight.  They both encouraged her to do what she must do. Knowing full well that their mother was spiritual and on a path for freedom.  They promised her never to tell their father about her plans. However, Celeste did not tell her daughters about Jack, that part she kept a secret.

When she finished her last call to her youngest daughter she shut the phone off and threw it out the window.  The only numbers she needed to remember is her daughters. She would write them down later, and keep them safe.

Celeste’s sorrow minimized when her and Wolf began some serious off road work with her massive Dodge truck. With glee and giggles Celeste ripped out her joy when she straddled the big truck on a dangerous off road path, “YAHOO…Oh Yeah Baby! Mama has a new pair of shoes!” Wolf took it in stride while trying not to lose his seat.  It was three pm in the afternoon when she shut the truck off deep into the mountains.  “Wolf, I need you to find Jack, I will track behind you as fast as I can.  You must stay alert for hunters. Do you understand me boy?”  Wolf licked her face confirming he understood his friend. When she opened the truck’s door, Wolf jumped out and headed deep into the wilderness.

It took Celeste a matter of fifteen minutes to change into winter clothing.  Grabbing her backpack she loaded a few belongings and took off into the woods.  This would be the first time Celeste enter a forest without her bow and arrows.

The energy that coursed throughout her body allowed her to move through the colorful forest with speed.   Lucky she did not meet up with anyone when the evening time began to set.  She stopped and made a small camp with a fire, and waited the night out thinking of all her life memories.  It was four in the morning when she heard Wolf howl. Returning his reply, she doused the fire with a bottle water and dirt to ensure the fire would not start up again.  Gathering her things she began her journey to meet up with her friends.

“May your path always be lit by sunshine my sexy stud muffin, until we meet again!”

Celeste heard her husband enter their home, loud, bumping into things then cursing. When he weaved his way into the living room he saw his wife sitting by the fire with tears in her eyes.  He had to take a double look at Celeste.  Even though her hair was cut to shoulder length, in a matter of hours she had aged. Two wide strips of platinum hair ran down the length of her hair on one side.  He shook his head to clear his drunken vision.  “What the hell happen to you?” he slurred out.  Celeste slowly raised her eyes and looked into the man she once thought she loved and could never live without.

He didn’t wait for an answer she watched him head for the bathroom immediately.  She picked herself off the floor and was amazed her body did not hurt anymore.  Slowly she pulled her P.J. bottoms up above her ankle.  The ring was gone, and the gash in her arm was almost healed.  She stretched her body and knew her back was back to normal without feeling the pain. She smiled and thanked her spirit privately for loving her so much as to heal her wounds.

She whispered to wolf, “We must leave soon my friend, I will let you out but stick around.” Wolf followed her to the front door and quickly exit the warm home. She poured herself another cup of coffee.  It was 6:00 am when she looked at the kitchen clock.

She sat her cup down on the counter and quickly went into her bedroom.  Pulling out her top dresser draw she tried to find her key that would unlock the cedar chest.  The key was not in it’s usual spot in a little box.  With urgency she moved her underwear around and found the key.  Her skin began to crawl…someone was in her chest she kept hidden for so long.  As she grabbed the key and tucked it away in her P.J. pocket, she quickly shut the dresser draw and got the heck out of the room before her husband came to bed.

The house was quiet, she took a drink of her coffee and decided to make her last breakfast in the home that had her blood, sweat and tears.  By the time she made fried potatoes, green chili, bacon and eggs, and tortilla’s her husband had not come out of the bathroom.  She had made several burritos to take on her journey, she wrapped them up in wax paper then covered them again in tin foil then hid them out of site.

A nagging feeling warned her to check on hubby.  Tip toeing to the bathroom she lightly knocked on the door.  No answer, she put her ear against the door and could hear heavy breathing.  “Are you okay in there?” Celeste lightly offered.  When no reply came she turned the knob on the door and slowly opened it.

Her husband was stinking drunk and laid in her slipper bath tub fast asleep covered with only a towel.  She quietly closed the door, and began to do her thing.  With haste she went outside into the shed where her trunk was stored.  Indeed she was right, someone had opened the container and forgot to lock it. Not taking the time to go through the trunk, she dragged the container outside and quickly loaded it in the bed of her dodge pick-up truck.

She was sweating with nervous energy, so many things to do ran through her mind.  The horses whinnied their greeting to the caretaker.  Celeste quickly ran to feed the horses she was leaving behind.  When she threw the hay into their stalls, she looked at her prized paint mares in foal to Quad.  “I will love you till the end of time my girls, you will produce the best stock from Quad. They will flourish and gain nobility through their father’s name!”

Celeste began to cry…but nothing prepared her for when she stood next to her one and only son.  Quad nickered a greeting, she lovingly placed her palm against his warm furry face.  “I will see you again my man in heaven, I thank you for all that you have given me. My heart bleeds with pain to release you.  You are truly magnificent Tru Quadrant, and I am bless to have the honor to love you like no other unconditionally.  You have been my rock through thick and thin, but now it’s your time to walk down the path of the Great Horse spirit.  My beloved childhood horse Ghost will guide you my beast.  I love you my baby now and forever.  May your path always be lit by sunshine my sexy stud muffin. Until we meet again!”  Celeste was balling her eyes out, her heart was breaking to pieces. She hugged the neck of her beloved companion and took a deep breath of his scent. Embedding the scent forever into her soul, she released him and fed him his breakfast.

When she closed his gate to his pen, Quad began to buck and kick, while whining his heart out.  Shaking his head and thick wild mane he pranced up to his gate calling the retreating Celeste back.  She stopped in her tracks and dared to look back at her sexy stallion.  He stopped his call the minute they looked at each other.  Both stood speechless, when she could stand no more she was about to turn around when Quad reared up and whinnied goodbye.   She bowed at her stallion gracefully, when finished she turned her back on him and went into the house to quickly pack her clothes.

“You foul creature…you touch me again and I’ll cut your balls off!” The muscular blue colored man tried to pull her hand away from his throat to catch a breath. She increased her grip harder, while watching his eyes bug out of his head.

How stupid Celeste was to drink that wine without food in her tummy.  As she settled herself down and sat in the living room, chills invaded her body.  She got up and started a fire in her kiva fireplace.  While the fire was brewing she went into the kitchen and began to make scrambled eggs for her dinner.  She sat by the fire eating her fresh farm eggs in silence.

Reliving the argument with her husband she softly spoke out.  “Did I start that fight? I don’t even know what the heck happen to set me off.  Maybe it was how he said things that made me lose it?” She quietly ate the rest of her eggs, while tears fell upon her cheeks.  “If he decides to act on his statement, then so be it!  Besides I would like to see the cheeka’s face when he can’t get his pecker up!”

Again she sat in silence then a thought came to her mind.  “I don’t own him, I don’t want to own him! I believe we have people in our life’s who we are destine to be with it, married or not. Beside I have learned love can be incredible or it can be torture…and right now I think my marriage is becoming torture.  I should have never married! Its only a piece of paper that binds us together.  I should have screwed him, had my kids and be done with the man.”

She got up and added another log to the warm cozy fire.  Just when she put a log in the fire she quickly thought of her husband’s words that she was always gone.  “Bullshit!  I am always home. Okay, the first time I left was when I was in Haiti for over a month. That was almost five years ago?  I have been no where until this hunt?  Why would he say that to me when I have stayed home being a good wife for many years taking care of our children and his mother with Alzheimer all by myself.  It is he who is never home. He is the one who parties and stays out late. I never ask him where he is or what he is doing, nor does he give me the common decency to tell me when he plans to do things with his friends.  I just sit and wait for him like an dutiful wife.”

“Jesus, god I ask him one time to have the decency to tell me where he is in our marriage.  When he popped off at me and said…What’s the matter you afraid I am going to fart and you won’t be able to smell it!  I have never asked him his where a bouts after that cruel comment.  Most women would accuse their husband’s of going out on them…but NOT me!  Even though I refuse to attend his friends parties after watching my husband flirt with other girls in front of me.  I have realized he needs the sociability with people more than I, and means no harm with his flirting.  I am comfortable in my skin and I don’t need the validation from others like he does.”

Celeste quickly remembered a time when she went to a party with her husband and it was the last one she would attend. It was the day they placed his mother into a nursing home.  It was her first outing after seven long years of hell dealing with an Alzheimer. She was full of sorrow and not in a mood to party but went anyways after being badgered by her husband.  As she watched everyone and her husband get plastered with alcohol she left the crazy people, and headed out by the swimming pool.

Deep in thought and grief she stood by the pool looking at the serene waters.  When one of his G.I. Joe friends approached her, he immediately tried to seduce her.  As he licked his lips and touched her breast she snapped!  The next thing the drunken man knew, he and her were submerge in the pool of water while Celeste was choking him.  She held his throat with her strong hand straggling him almost to death under water.  When they surfaced for air she dangerously spit out her venom, “You foul creature…you touch me again and I’ll cut your balls off!”  The muscular blue colored man tried to pull her hand away from his throat to catch a breath.  She increased her grip harder, while watching his eyes bug out of his head.  The man was saved when his friends jumped into the pool and pulled the two apart. Celeste’s husband was shocked at her behavior. He could clearly see her eyes had changed to a deep green and were thirsty for death.  In the end, she never told him what really happened nor did his friend, though he continuously ask.  She kept the mistake to herself, and vowed never again to attend a gathering with her husband’s male friends and wives.

Uncontrollable tears were flowing down her face, she put another log on the fire and went outside to see if wolf was around.  Her companion laid waiting by the door, she opened the door and let him in.  They both went back to the warm fire and laid down together on the floor.  Wolf licked her tears, she smiled and hugged the beast while covering herself with a warm fuzzy blanket on the bear rug by the fire.  “Well Wolf, it’s you and me against the world.  I may be a stupid woman who allows people to shit all over me.  But one day, I will be at peace in my life and away from all the harm a human inflicts on a person.”  She kissed the wolf’s massive head then closed her eyes and fell fast asleep.

“Piss boy, wolf! I think that woman has pampered you too much!” Wolf growled at Jack.

As the two companions made it to Jack’s hut, he didn’t know where to begin. He surveyed the wooded area with love and respect.  For many years he has spent his deserted life in the lonely valley by himself without seeing people.  Who would ever guess it would be Celeste to find him.  “That girl is special and she doesn’t know how EXTRA special she truly is!  Should I trust her Wolf?”  Jack looked at Wolf who decided to lay by the cold fire pit, Wolf only blinked at him.

“Well I better get a fire going for us boy, it’s getting colder.  How about some bear meat for dinner?”  Wolf didn’t answer Jack, he was pouting.  “I know boy, she will be back soon so hang in there!”  Jack gave Wolf a huge piece of bear meat, Wolf didn’t touch it. Jack shook his head and said, “Piss boy wolf!  I think that woman has pampered you too much!” Wolf growled at Jack.  “Oh, so you do know what I am saying!”  Jack smiled.  In no time at all, Jack had his fire blazing, taking off the chilly late night’s weather.

Wolf became very alert all of a sudden, he looked into the south direction.  “No, don’t you dare wolf!” Jack barked out at the animal.  He watched the lupus become extremely agitated, then howl and whine.  “What the hell is the matter with you Wolf?”  Jack suddenly felt the hair rise on his back.  “Something is wrong boy…I feel it too!”  Wolf didn’t wait, he took off like lightening.  “Go, to her Wolf I too fear she is in trouble!” Jack yelled out.

He stood silently trying to feel Celeste, but he could not.  He had a nagging feeling the spitfire was in trouble, but couldn’t connect with her like she did with him. “DAMN IT!” Jack yelled out. There was nothing he could do, but harbor on the ill feelings.  So he kept himself busy for a few hours.

Jack sat at his fire eating his dinner alone.  The peacefulness of his home began to drive him crazy.  He picked up his hot cup of coffee, sipping and pondering what kind of trouble Celeste could be in.  “The woman has no protection except that knife in the woods, plus she is carrying meat.  I hope you find her, Wolf and fast!”  Jack voiced out loud to the fire.  As he sat warming his body up, he quickly remembered putting her broken arrows into his back pack.  He got up from the fire and headed into his hut to get his backpack.  Seven broken arrows laid hidden in his pack when he pulled them out to examine.  “Damn good spearheads!  They must be made from elk bone?  Let me try to fix these with bear bone, and see what I can come up with.”

He grabbed his Bowie knife, broken arrows and went back to the fire to work on her arrows.   The nagging feeling he had when he reached the fire began to escalated inside him uncontrollably.  “Get to her Wolf and fast.  I fear Celeste might have met her match in the forgotten Valley of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains. Protect my huntress my lord God, please!”  Jack softly stated to the evening stars, he knew Wolf would travel night and day until he got to her.  He turned his nervous attention on the arrows working diligently into the early morning light.
